Itinerary
Hotel Pick-Up and Great Barrier Reef Drive
Guests are picked up from accommodation in Cairns, Northern Beaches or Port Douglas in a Billy Tea Safaris custom 4WD vehicle. The tour travels north along the Great Barrier Reef Drive, a coastal road that connects Cairns and Port Douglas with the Daintree region.
Daintree River Cruise
The group stops for light refreshments before joining a 1 hour cruise on the Daintree River. The cruise looks at the river, mangrove habitat, local plants and wildlife. Estuarine crocodiles may be seen in the river environment.
Alexandra Range
After the cruise, the tour crosses into the Daintree Rainforest area and travels over the Alexandra Range. The guide explains the landscape and rainforest environment while the vehicle moves through the range.
Guided Rainforest Boardwalk
Guests join the guide for an easy grade rainforest boardwalk tour. The walk looks at ancient ferns, palms, vines, epiphytes, orchids, mosses, fungi and other rainforest life. Wildlife that may be seen includes the Southern Cassowary, Boyd’s Rainforest Dragon, reptiles, birds and rainforest macropods.
Rainforest Lunch and Swim Stop
Lunch is served in a rainforest setting and includes tea, coffee and a seasonal fruit platter. There is time for a rainforest swim when conditions allow. Wildlife that may be seen near the swim area includes jungle perch, saw-shelled turtles and the Ulysses butterfly.
Cape Tribulation Beach
The tour visits Cape Tribulation Beach, also known as Kalkajaka. This area has cultural importance for the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people and is known as the place where the Daintree Rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef.
Daintree Ice Cream and Cable Ferry Crossing
The day includes a stop for Daintree tropical fruit ice-cream made with locally sourced ingredients. The return journey includes the Daintree River cable ferry crossing before guests are returned to their accommodation.
