Who are we?

The Bike Shop and Hire team are a group of enthusiastic locals with a passion for all things bikes. Since Rod and Angie Johnson bought the business in 2016, the business has steadily grown and improved.

We take great joy in sharing our love of bikes with locals and especially with visitors to our beautiful region. If you want to know where the best bike trails are then come and chat with our team – they will happily share their insider knowledge to help you create amazing memories during your stay in the Port Douglas region.

The Bike Shop and Hire Story

The Bike Shop and Hire has been around since the 1980s – it even predates the Port Douglas Primary School! Over time, it has become an integral part of the Port Douglas landscape attracting both locals and travellers to experience the unique biking experiences that the local area has to offer.

Fast forward to 2016 and Rod and Angie Johnson had just relocated from Sydney to Port Douglas and were looking for a new business that tied in with their lifestyle and passions. Rod had been mountain biking his whole life and had raced competitively for many years. The Bike Shop and Hire was not for sale at the time, but a series of events led to the purchase of the business and the real work started.

Rod and Angie had a vision and since 2016 they have worked hard to build a team and grow the business to what it is today. Every team member they hire has a passion for bikes, whether it be maintaining and fixing them, selling them, hiring them, or riding them!

e-Bike Sightseeing Self-Guided Tours

Explore the local country lanes and nearby towns and villages on an easy to pedal e-Bike. We'll set you up with a turn-by-turn GPS navigator to guide to the best spots to visit.

Visit sights like Mossman Gorge, Shannonvale Winery, the Australian Chocolate Farm, Mossman Markets with a cool swim in a river along the way.
