Skyrail has announced two extra maintenance dates this December as part of its 2025 scheduled works. The closure will now also include Thursday 11th and Friday 12th December 2025.

These additional dates were chosen to ensure access to specialist equipment and skilled personnel while keeping disruption for guests to a minimum.

Guests planning to visit in December are encouraged to note these changes when making travel arrangements. Skyrail appreciates everyone’s understanding as they work to maintain a safe and exceptional experience for all visitors.

Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, is getting its biggest makeover yet – an $85 million redevelopment set to transform the experience.

The upgrade, rolling out in stages between July 2026 and November 2027, will include brand-new gondolas, cables, stations, and overhead structures. Visitors can look forward to quiet rides in sleek, floor-to-ceiling glass gondolas offering uninterrupted views of the world’s oldest rainforest.

Skyrail has been a must-do in Tropical North Queensland for 30 years – and the new upgrade is set to keep it that way for decades to come.

Heads up for those planning a trip on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway in May 2026. The cableway will be closed from Monday, 25th May to Sunday, 31st May, and will reopen on Monday, 1st June.

This routine maintenance helps keep operations safe and running smoothly, so while it’s a short break, it’s an important one.

Skyrail has also reminded guests of upcoming closures later this year in 2025, including:

• October 7th to 20th


• Christmas Day, December 25th

Additional 2026 closure dates are still to be confirmed.

Douglas Shire Council has locked in the new Daintree River Ferry fees for 2025/2026, effective from 1 July 2025. The updated fare schedule includes small increases across most categories to support ferry operations and maintenance.

From July, return fares will be:

• Standard vehicles & 6–10 seat buses: $51


• Buses (11–20 seats): $83


• Buses (21+ seats): $145


• Cars with caravans/trailers: $70


• Machinery: $32

These rates replace the current fares, which stay in place until 30 June 2025. The change reflects a modest $2–$6 increase across vehicle types.

Travellers planning to cross the Daintree should factor in the new pricing when scheduling trips post-June. For full details, the updated fee schedule is available through Douglas Shire Council.
