We are delighted to announce that from the 20th of December, the Semi-Submersible is back and operational again!



The semi-submersible coral viewing reef tour is the perfect activity for non-swimmers on the Great Barrier Reef. Learn all about the Great Barrier Reef with live commentary by our Marine Biologist and enjoy spectacular coral formations and spot marine life without getting in the water.

The semi-submersible tour operates at our second reef site, Hastings Reef, and runs for approximately 20 minutes.

As of 18 December2021, Sunlover will be extending the Fitzroy ferry times, with 2 additional return transfers per day.

After a series of severe and widespread disturbances over the last decade, the Great Barrier Reef is currently in a recovery window with coral cover rising in all three regions. 

The Australian Institute of Marine Science’s (AIMS) Long-Term Monitoring Program - Annual Summary Report on Coral Reef Condition for 2020/21 shows after a year’s reprieve, with no major pressures from heat stress or cyclones, widespread recovery is underway. 

AIMS CEO Dr Paul Hardisty said AIMS’ 35-year history of monitoring the Reef shows increases in coral cover are expected during periods of low disturbance.  

“Coral reefs can recover from disturbances if given enough time and the Reef has been given a breather over the last year,” he said.  

“Another year like this will continue the Reef’s recovery but the increasing prominence of climate related extreme weather events and crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks is causing more severe and frequent pressures, giving the Reef fewer opportunities like this to recover."

The Edge Lookout over Barron Falls is now open to the the public!

If you are a little scared of heights you may need to push your boundaries to experience Skyrail latest attraction. The Edge gives you the opportunity to stand on a glass panel section of the boardwalk suspended some 160 metres above the Gorge.

The Edge  is Skyrail Rainforest Cableway’s latest attraction located at Skyrail’s Barron Falls Station providing access to unimpeded panoramic views of the ancient landscape spanning across the waterfall, down along the Gorge.

We are expecting to see a lot of selfies appear on Facebook and Instagram featuring the new Edge Lookout.
