Getting here
There are several options for getting to Tasmania from the mainland of Australia. You can fly into Hobart or Launceston, the two main cities on the island, or you can take a ferry from Melbourne or Sydney.

Catching the ferry to Tasmania

Spirit of Tasmania Ferry

The Spirit of Tasmania ferry travels from from Gelong to Devonport. Spirit of Tasmania Quay is located in North Geelong, approximately 70km south-west of Melbourne's CBD. The ships depart both ports nightly as well as daily in peak season.

Driving from Melbourne

  • Take State Route 30 to M1
  • Use the left lane to take the exit towards Shell Parade/C115
  • Keep left, follow signs for C115/Nth Shore
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Shell Parade/C115
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit and stay on Shell Parade/C115 then follow road as it becomes Seabeach Parade
  • Continue Right onto Abery Road
  • At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Corio Quay Rd/C115

Parking at the Gelong Terminal
The Spirit of Tasmania Quay - offers parking space for cars, campervans, motorcycles and freight vehicles. Featuring a dedicated drop off/pick up zone and a marshalling area for 600 cars the new precinct also includes more than 6,000m2 of undercover parking for passengers.

Parking at the Devonport terminal
Free parking is available at the Devonport terminal located on The Esplanade, East Devonport.

Times
The trip on board Spirit of Tasmania takes approximately 9-11 hours. On days of single sailings, the voyage takes 11 hours. On days of double sailings, the voyage takes 9 hours.

Bruny Island Sightseeing & Lighthouse Tour

Dave our tour driver and leader was exceptional especially his knowledge of Tasmania particularly Bruny Island. Group of 12 people was just enough size.Highly recommend bus tour because you learn more with local people than driving in your own car.

We pick you up at the Hobart - Mac 2 Cruise ship terminal. Meeting point is situated 150m from the terminal situated on corner of Franklin Wharf and Hunter st.
